Can't remember much as it was yesterday when I was last there. Water temps 70 at entrance to cove with dischrage. Low to mid 60s elsewhere. Lake is a couple of feet low from last year at this time so the reeds are in less than 2 feet of water around most of the lake. Caught a few yesterday, between 15 and 17 inches, all on slow rolled spinnerbait, all in 4 feet of water.

So if the plant officially closes on the 12th what is that going to do to the fishing? I actually had my first trip planned to fish out there on the 16th but now I'm questioning if it is worth it. Will the water temps drop quickly and if they are dropping will it send the fish into some type of shock? I know nothing about the lake so any tips would be appreciated.

The better fish are not being caught at the discharge. They are being caught in the colder parts of the lake. About the same water temps as local "normal" lakes. I wouldnt hesitate to go.

Cashed checks there for the last 4 years. Never even been in the discharge area......

Once Luminant sells their properties and if no entity steps up to maintain the lake, there will be no one to lower the flood gates on the dam to release water, so they will be lowered permanently to prevent future flooding or dam breakage. This is what has happened at previous TXU/Luminant locations where a county, TPWD, or other governmental agency has not stepped to up take control. ain't gonna happen. HAVE ANY OF YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT FAIRFIELD BEEN THERE? CAN YOU READ? There is a BIG SIGN at the gate. The lake has been sold to the city. It is gonna EVENTUALLY be turned into a water treatment lake and the property next to it is gonna be a treatment plant. The lake ain't going ANYWHERE. YOU ARE ALL LIKE A BUNCH OF OLD CHURCH WOMEN! Read the whole statement. What part of 'and if no entity steps up to maintain the lake' is hard to understand. If the City takes over the lake AND determines it needs to be maintained at its current level to serve their purpose, it should stay at the current level.

Thanks to Obama's EPA for ruining winter fishing. In a year or so there will be 9,000 boats on Welsh in January.

I agree with you....probably. Never say never or "aint going to happen". JUST HAPPENED somewhere. Open gates now between Monticello and Sandlin is so water level on Monticello does not have to be managed anymore. No more regulating water levels, pumping water up into Monticello to keep it full..... Probably not happen to Fairfield....probably.

Maybe they'll get rid of the bouy's in front of the Monticello gates on the sandlin side - had more than one discussion with that lake patrol guy on where that "imaginary" line was apparently my imagination was different from his - of course mine didn't count.

I hate clean air... Damn Obama. Yeah, luckily Obama invented it. We were never able to breathe in East Texas until he came along. I'll never forget shortly after his inauguration when I got to take off my gas mask for the first time.

What city has purchased the lake?
