Money can't buy you happiness, but it can rent you something so damn close you'll never be able to tell the difference.

Besides the Brazos a couple of my other favorites have been the Sabine (below Toledo Bend to Bon Wier) and the Devil's.

Interested in truly beautiful scenery and a river full of smallmouth? Go to the Buffalo River in Arkansas this spring.

- Devils is the ultimate river adventure with some monster fish but gets pricey considering shuttles.
- Buffalo is nice but can get crowded.
- Ouachita is my personal favorite in Arkansas. Similar to Buffalo but 3 hrs closer, less people and excellent smallie fishing.
- Caddo in Ark is easy to access but lacks a bit in scenery. Good #s of smallies but not as much size.

Look to Southeast Oklahoma. Kiamichi River, Upper and Lower Mt. Fork.

I did a 4 day (3 nights) down the Current River in Missouri back in October. The scenery was amazing! Crystal clear water, natural springs all along the way (one you can paddle up into) bald eagles and otters too. The trout fishing in the upper part of the river is supposed be great, but we didn't do so well. We got into some smallmouth and walleye down the river. And the flow is constant. We did over 50 miles from just below Baptist camp to Two rivers where the Jack's fork comes in with no trouble at all.

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Following this post. Looking to do some more trips with the family. Won't be taking them to the devil's till they are much older(special place though). We have done the Brazos but looking for others options. My oldest daughter(10) is learning to fly fish along with my wife. The Oauchita is looking pretty good now. Thanks for the recommendation.

Caddo River in Arkansas, Caddo Gap to Glenwood and then on to Amity.
Nice little river. Never had a bad trip there, fall or spring.

More adventure, try the Big Piney but watch out for the "The Mother" rapids.

Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

Just to add to this, has anyone paddled the Red River below Texoma Dam? Maybe put in at Texoma and take out at Hwy 271 in Arthur City? Driving miles it is about 66 miles, not sure on river miles. Just curious to know how this stretch of water fishes and camping any good?

This past Oct. we did the upper Ouachita between Rocky Shoals and Dragover Float camp. Water levels were extremely low and had to do a lot of dragging but that made fishing easier. We broke the nine miles up over three days not because we had to drag a lot but the fishing was so awesome we couldn't stop. Great scenery, crystal clear water, didn't see a soul on the river in 3 days, and caught over 200 smallies. We will be going back this spring and they also have a white bass run with some monster stripers mixed in.
