I have camped at both the State Park and Loafers Bend East Park on the lake, and both are great. The State Park campsites can get you close to the water and have some good fishing right from the bank. But the State Park will not allow you to reserve a particular campsite, only the "availability" of a campsite when you get there (first come gets the best sites). Loafers Bend is a Corp of Engineers park and you can reserve a specific campsite on line, at ReserveAmerica.com . There are other Corp of Engineers parks on the lake, and all are well maintained, good restrooms and showers. Whitney is a very nice lake and usually is not very crowded.

If you are going to be bank fishing I would go to the State Park, when the lake settles down a bit the far east shore/point at the State Park is a great place to catch Sandies, Stripers and Bass this time of year. Before the lake rose so much there was an awesome Sandbass bite along the rock shore by the State Park boat ramp. If you go to Loafer Bend and have a boat I prefer Loafer Bend West as far as the campsites.
