so i finally got a real tree and still have it - on Cedar Creek with a dock with about 10 feet of water on an inlet - i have no idea about using trees to attract crappie, so here are my questions:


1. is it worth it?

2. Best way to secure it to the dock?

3. When do you put it out there?

I am sure there are posts about this but i am admittedly too lazy to look

I was on the creek back during the summer shallow docks was gar world . Sink it and hope water goes up. Just tie a cable to tree attach to dock with a heavier weight of some kind at bottom of tree.

i use cement blocks or 1/2 blocks .tie them around the bottom of the tree with nylon 1/8 " rope.prob only need 1 depending on the size of your tree.then tie same rope about 2' from the top.hopefully you have 8' to 12' of water around your dock.just tie it to your dock and let it hang in the water down about 8' to 12'. 6 or 8 trees would be better. shaded side is best. i make most of mine out of pvc

Burn the Christmas trees, and forget you ever thought about sinking them! Three things to know about sinking brush if you want to eat crappie? Willow, Willow,Willow ! Wait until the leaves are on the willow trees, thin get your chain saw , some cinder blocks, a little galvanized wire( barbed wire is what I use because I have it, not because it's best),some plastic jugs(if desired?), about $4.30 is your financial exposure per set! And go to work,yes that's right , you have to work before you eat ! In a half a day you can have five good crappie holes out and ready for action, take 8 fish off each one of them and you and your buddy just limited out! I have caught fish within two day of putting out willows,it's quick and easy, most of all productive. With minimal loss of jigs and a more comfortable environment for you fish. Hope it helps!

Tie three trees together top to bottom. Put bricks on the bottom tree, tie top tree to dock about five feet down. Now you have structure from five feet to approx. twenty feet.

Yes it's worth it. Tie or wire two or three cinder blocks to the trunk of the tree (around the base and middle of tree) Drop it in. Since you are in 10ft of water, don't worry about standing the tree up or tying it to the dock....you can if you want but not necessary.

If using fresh cedar tree usually one cinder block will work but Christmas trees are really buoyant so the more weight the better.

Just tie a weight on it, and sink it under the middle of your dock. It's not there for the crappie. It's there to attract BAIT!
