Does anybody around here do spider rigging? Haven�t ever seen anybody locally doing it

It's been awhile, but yes. I did more of it when I lived in Oklahoma.

I do more like a praying mantis .... one rod off each side of the boat and a jig rod in hand.

Yes. It is a great method of catching them on our local lakes.

Just don't do it in the summer on the lakes with a lot of pleasure boaters.....too much bounce while swirling in the washtub.....winter, spring and fall though with not a lot of boats out is a great way to catch em......

Yep...Wes (Bottom_Bouncer) and I have been using that technique together in tournaments for over 10 years now. Definitely easier with 2 people if you are going to run more and a couple rods each.

We are back down from the north for 3 months. We spider rig on Lake O Pines 4 poles each front and back. We use Millennium Marine Spyderloc Rod Holder from Grizzly Jig Company easy to install and well built. We bought it on there ebay page with free shipping.

I just started spider rigging this past year and love it, but there is a learning curve and it takes practice. A good rod holder setup is a must. 4 rods will definitely keep a man busy unless you aren't around anything. Brush piles can give you grief but are manageable, schools of sandbass can be disastrous. Sometimes it takes all my patients not to throw a cuss fit when I get it all tangled up. The biggest thing I have learned is you don't have to have all 4 lines down 100% of the time. When I get into a frenzy of fish I only keep a couple lines down and swap out when I catch a fish. The holder makes this fast and efficient. Here lately at pines between the crappie and sandbass it will keep you plenty busy.

I don't spider rig much anymore, but sometimes I think that is a big mistake. I've only won two big national tournaments a few years back, and we were spider rigging in both of those. Spider rigging was a very good way to locate structure before electronics became so popular. You need a good trollmotor and good rod holders and also a long handle dip net. If you have a partner it helps to have side by side seating on the front of your boat. It also helps to have equipment box and livewell close to your seats.
