Had to break the ice on Jan. 4 back in the creek but the fish were there. It is very slow in the 39 degree water so I moved back out into the main lake area and fish some deep drop off instead. Best fish weight 5 pounds using the boga grip. The other two were just barely over four pounds. Then I had about five more fish that were under 14 inches.
Does anyone know what the smaller bass are that like to suspend in the deeper water and chase the small bait fish most of the year? These fish have the blackish green wave line down the middle of the sides. The biggest fish I have caught with is destink pattern is about 18 inches and in the 2.5 pound class. Real fighters.
It is cold, but the fish are still bitting.
