Hey everyone,
My name is John. I just recently moved into the area (Irving / Las Colinas) for some work from Biloxi, MS. Mainly fished just offshore and inshore for specks / reds back home. Tried out a couple spots up here from the fishing map, so far but haven't had any luck. The freshwater game is a little tough to learn coming brand new into it lol.
Would there be any specific lures or tips / tricks yall would recommend picking up for this time of year to try to land some fish? I want to try the spillway at California Crossing this weekend if anyone would like to join if your bored shoot me a PM!

What are you trying to catch?
For bass, I have good luck with lighter spinning tackle. I throw 2-3" grubs and swim baits on small jig heads. Also have luck with small spinnerbaits and crankbaits.
I've been experimenting with wacky rigs, senkos, drop shots, and other soft plastics with varied success.
I'm headed out somewhere this weekend, I just haven't decided where.

Water is cold, fish slow, and then slow down even more. It’s painful!!! I have lots of luck with a Grandebass 4 inch, watermelon seed colored, Texas rigged worm during the winter.

Time of year as well as what species you're fishing for makes a very big difference. Winter time most of the fish are in the creeks...

Tried out Saturday about 12pm-1pm at the crossing with no luck. There were 2 guys out there throwing net but didn't pull anything up either.. I threw a slab, a squarebill, and a wacky worm. I'm trying to catch bass or anything fun lol. Im using a 7'Gloomis - e6x saltwater w/ a stradic 4k ci4+, 20lb braid.

Personally, I'd stick to creeks or ponds until late February/March when it's warmer if you're just bass fishing. Not too many other types of water bodies to find them from the bank in winter. Have caught almost a dozen 3 & 4 pounders in a day in a creek before just on a crappie jig...
