Decided to wait till 7:30 to leave the house and let Mr Sun warm things a little. Had to do a little searching to find the fish but it didn't take long. First stop, no shad anywhere so I didn't drop a line. Next place had some shad balls scattered around in 36-42 FOW. Also saw some other fish in the area but couldn't really tell what they were. Turns out there was a smorgasbord of species in the area. Had to deal with blue cats and white bass but the crappie wanted to play also. Fished till 2:30 to finish what I thought was a limit but when I get home and count there's 24. Oh well, no harm no foul. Gona have to get that counter out next time. Water temp was 45.6 when I started and 46.7 when I left. Fish were close to the bottom in 37-39 FOW. Front 7 weighed 9.50 lbs. Big fish was 1.69.

Why I used Velcro to mount a counter to my passenger console. After I drop the fish in the livewell, I tap the counter on the way back up to the bow.

Always fun when sandies or hybrids bite when spider rigging.

Nice report!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

evidently the shad are NOT dying at 51 to 55 degrees, unless they have a heater down there..

good job, glad to see the winter pattern holding up since I figured it out.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

lp, if you're implying that I said shad start to die when the water temp goes below 55, you're so very misinformed.
And if this is a back handed stab at me, it's unfortunate you feel you have to respond in this manner.
