I manage my own account. My mutual funds averaged close to 20% last year.
Loser - EPD, -3% Winner Harris Corp (HRS), +40%
Noticed that today, the EPD price is getting closer to what I bought it for. Wish I had bought more when it was $24. I love that quarterly dividend check. Those quarterly checks are not dividends from EPD, they are partnership distributions. If you do your own taxes this will cause you much angst and consternation come March when you get their K-1 and have to figure out how to reflect the very confusing information on your tax return. The good news is partnership distributions are not taxed!!! The bad news is your share of the partnership's income is subject to tax (part of the K-1), if in fact it made a profit. The other bad news is that the distributions reduce your cost basis in the stock which will bite you whenever you sell it. The best investment vehicle for housing MLPs is probably Roth IRAs if you are parking money there for your heirs - they will get stepped-up basis on your death so the cumulative distributions will never get taxed (think of that as another good news/bad news scenario).

We don't get a choice as to how our profit sharing is invested. They are rather conservative.

All my trades are under my self directed 401k. I will worry about taxes when I retire.
He is truly a sick individual.

I ended up with 25.8% in 2017. One of the managers I work with only made 13% but he's 2 years away from retiring. He also just passed the $1Mil mark. I wish I had my returns and his money.

We don't get a choice as to how our profit sharing is invested. They are rather conservative. Bob if you hit 59 1/2 you can move it around how you see fit, Ira, 401, annuity etc..... But again may hinge on how Martin has it structured... They've been around a long time..
