So far I have been very happy with the Lews rods and seem to be a very good rod for the price.

So $159 stick for $129, etc. I don't have any but that deal looked pretty good as do their Strike King crankbait packages (12 6XDs for $45)

At your price point you will be good with any brand. There are guys that love one brand and guys that hate the same brand like you seen above with Dobyn's. You need to find a rod that feels good to you. Unfortunately you have to use them to know. Brand becomes almost irrelevant. I would also say to not overlook having rods custom built. That way you can put whatever components you want on them to get the desired feel or sensitivity at about the same price point. If I could start from the beginning I would do it that way. Asking what brand just get's you into a Ford/Chevy/Dodge debate.

I switched to all Shimano Zodias and love them. Very lite and sensitive.

I would highly recommend the Dobyns Sierra model for the price point your looking for and im not brand loyal to anything other than shimano reels. I have several dobyns and have never had a problem except for my spinning reel that I snapped in half but that was my fault in the garage and dobyns replaced it with no problems. The TFO rods are also really nice. I would go with the 7'3" med/heavy for what your needing it for but that's just me.
