Not being on call, I woke up early this morning, loaded up the kayak and headed over to Nails Creek SP to find me some fish. The morning was cold, and the lake was like glass as I paddled over into the Yegua. Ran into a couple of duck hunters at the mouth of the Yegua with several decoys. They did see me coming, so I'm glad they weren't taking shots at the birds over head. That's the first time I've run into duck hunters at the creeks entrance. I'm not certain they really should have been there in the first place.....I'm not an avid hunter, so I don't know the rules of duck hunting at Somerville. Fished Wolf pond most of the morning and landed a nice size white bass. I was a bit shocked to see one already, but hopeful that more would show. That wasn't the case. I did land several nice size LMB, one around 4 lbs. As the morning wore on, I paddled further up stream to my other locations searching for Crappie. About 1:30 pm the bite was on fire!!!!! It was literally on each drop of the jig I would land one. I managed to go home with 10 nice size crappie and the sole white bass. The creek was empty. No Jon boats and only ran into one kayaker as I was closing out the day. Pointed him in the direction of the crappie bite, gave him a few of the crappie jigs I was using with much success, and headed back to the boat ramp to close out a GREAT DAY!
