Check up every Spring. Check/change filters often.

Heard from a buddy in La Crosse, WI this morning. Heater died during the night. Woke up to 53 in the house and 22 outside. $4100.00 was the first quote.

I don't do it and never have. I honestly wouldn't let any service tech touch my system- just not much integrity left out there in this industry. My .02 -not looking to argue, just responding.

My Dad had annual checkups done and it usually resulted in some kind of add-on charge. The last time they visited (I was not there- just my Dad- an old trusting man) it was recommended he get a compressor change it would not last through the summer he was told.

I cancelled the $6000 work order he signed after I found it on his kitchen table. If i hadn't stopped it, it would have been installed the next morning- I'm just glad they didn't start the work the same day.

The compressor which was over 15 years old at the time would end up lasting another 6-7 years.

I had mine blowing cold when I got home last night, climbed up in the attic hit the master cut off, replaced the filter. kept the heat setting at off, went to the garage reset the circuit breaker, then to the thermostat, turned it on heat only, started pushing heat in 5 minutes, I think it has a chip or something, when the filter is over due or stressing the system because it is clogged it trips the heat off, just a guess, but the previous got me heat again, the unit is a TRANE not too old.

I will start by saying James probably saved my daughter and granddaughters life. I took him up on the offer for a heating unit check up. Came out this week and everything looked ok initially.

Tried the furnace as the weather cooled down and something wasn't right. The flame would not stay lit. Called James and he immediately came back out. He then proceeded to work the next three days diagnosing the issues and getting parts. His persistence saved them from possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

After thinking he had fixed all the problems he diagnosed, he was about to leave but something told him to check the roof vent. Sure enough it was restricted. We had a new roof put on this summer and the roofers had clogged the vent. After clearing the obstruction, everything worked correctly.

I can never say enough thank yous to James and his desire to make sure everything was right before leaving. I cringe thinking of what might have happened if he would not of gone back to check the roof vent. James is a true HVAC tradesman that cares about each customer and their well being. It's more than a job to him.
