Powerbait is a good go to bait. I have caught 'em on both natural colors and glo colors. Lures seem to be hit or miss for me. During one season I have torn them up on a specific lure, and then the following year no bites at all on that lure. I have experimented with a large variety of lures. For down here, a reliable lure is the panther martin spinner in black/yellow with silver blade.
It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Rooster tails, kastmasters are also good powerbait works I prefer the power eggs they are much more durable and can catch several fish

I have done well for them on crappie jigs under a float. Corn also works pretty good. Kastmasters are my go to for lures. And believe it or not I have had good luck with 4 inch power worms on a 1/0 hook Texas rigged. They will eat those and sometimes you get a bonus bass!

The past couple of years I had the best luck with powerbait on a float, a foot or two from the surface. For lures, nothing has outperformed the luhr-jensen super duper, but I've also had luck with other small silver spoons (when the super dupers were sold out). Good luck! I'm giving it a shot on Friday.

I went to Weatherford yesterday. It was stocked Friday. I only had about 45 minutes and I threw a gold super duper the whole time. I got one hit. There was a guy camped out on a point though that was having pretty good success. He was fishing a worm just off the bottom.

Pure luck!! Trout are the most finicky fish I have ever fished for. I never seem to have the lure or flavor/color power bait of the day. I just enjoy watching someone two foot away from me limit out 20 minutes after being there after I've been there hours with nothing to show for it. (not) I guess super duper and orange power worms are what I try first. Yesterday the super duper was slaying the bass in 6-8" size. Trout could not get to my lure with all the bass in the way. I fish power worms off the bottom. Still it's fun to get out and try it!!
May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.

Some people have luck with lures. I never have. I think stocked, farm raised trout are used to being fed pellet food and aren't used to chasing minnow-looking lures. I can cast a spinner or spoon for two hours with no luck and the guy next to me will limit on corn or fake salmon eggs.

The smaller the lure the better.

Let me ask another question, what is your go-to time for fishing trout? Is morning/dusk usually good, or do they bite all day?
Last couple of years I always went in the morning, tried to get there right after daybreak. It worked well and usually my son and I limited out by noon. I've gone early three times this year and had no luck. I see some posts by others on the forum going in the afternoon and having some luck. I'm wondering if getting up before 6 a.m. (and waking up my kids) is worth the trouble.
