Can someone give me some help on this? Been failing miserably. I usually bass fish there (and that's not going too well either) but would like to take some friends fishing and just throw some bait in the water relax and catch some fish. Are they shallow? Deep? Main Lake? Back of creeks? Pls PM me if you don't feel like making this info public.
How come I keep catching small fish when every product I buy is supposed to catch more and bigger fish?

Cat fishing gets good when it gets cold! I drift fish when its windy, or use the trolling motor when theres no wind. Havent tried much lately so hard to say where the fish are. But seems like areas close to river channel get good in the winter. Hopefully water temp will drop and get the blues fired up.

Canyon is tough, hard bottom and not much supportive vegetation. If you go up into the mouth of the river, you'll see a lot of abandoned limb lines, so someone fishes there, probably in the winter and spring months. There is tons of submerged timer so if you get off the center line on the graph, use your trolling motor.

I've lived on Canyon for a year now, and fish it a lot. I am by no means an expert on Canyon, far from it, but I did decent on blue cats last year between January-April. However, the sit and wait game never worked for me. I mostly drift fish (with trolling motor), and if I don't see bait on my graph, I don't catch fish. Now, I find the bait before I even cast a line. I can't seem to catch shad in this lake to save my life, so bluegill is my bait of choice. I use them live and cut, and seem to do better on cut. Although I catch an occasional striper on live bluegill, which is fine with me. I usually fish on the upper end by the dam, and usually drift through creek channels. If you have a graph, find the bait, and the catfish will be around. If you don't have a graph, and just want to sit and wait, then the river mouth is probably your best bet. Just my 2 cents.

Texas Parks and Wildlife says the channel catfish population in Canyon is excellent. They are the ones that do the population studies. https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/canyon/.

If u can't castnet blue gills use chicken breast. I always have luck throwing a couple of jugs. They will be at 40 feet. Fish in the flats north of the island near the marina. I eat them for fish tacos yum.

They also do the weekly fishing report and we know how reliable those are.
