I use mostly 6 lb test line, #1 gold Aberdeen hooks with medium to small minnows. Through the lips most of the time. Works good for me.

I use a bigger, stout hook because I fish Fork primarily and it's not uncommon to have a big bass or catfish eat a minnow.
I find those rotating hooks tend to hook crappie in the side of the mouth where its tender, resulting in more lost fish. Those razor sharp sickle hooks stick them in the roof...hard membrane.

Tru Turn #2 or 4 gold best than Aberdeen #4 gold light wire.
