I’ve been fishing the dropshot rig with medium success. Have caught some fish with it but not as much as I hoped.
Trying to limit my rod set ups, especially for times I fish tournaments as a co-angler.
So if you had to chose either a C Rig or drop shot rig which way would you go??? Is there a advantage of one vs the other??
Looking at the set up it seems as if it’s only the way the hooks and weights are tied on.

Both very versatile options (can change line type/rod type/heaviness of weight/length of leader depending on depth fishing and cover for both techniques) In general, you would fish a crig with at least a medium heavy rod . In general, you'd fish a drop shot with a medium light or a medium rod, but can fish a heavy drop shot for punching on a heavy rod.
My default would be to fish whichever way is more efficient. As a co-angler that may be determined by who is driving the boat and where they like to fish.
I'd lean to crig if I have the following conditions: --windy --stained water --fish are relating very close to the bottom --clean bottom (not silty) --crig can be very snaggy so I avoid it around deep brush/trees --where clean bottom meets a grass line --dragging up a slope --light weight crig around bedding fish or shallow fish --light weight crig at the tops of deeper grass
I'd lean to dropshot: --low wind --clear water --tough fishing conditions --see fish on the graph suspending 2ft off the bottom --keep in mind that you can fish a drop shot on a heavy rod and 65lb braid with a 1+oz weight short leader to punch cover and fish around deep brush. --slowly dragging a short leader drop shot around bedding fish or shallow fish can be great.
As a co-angler, a drop shot would be easier to fish under most conditions. Have to be mindful notto have a crig leader hit the driver on your cast or your rod on the long horizontal crig hook set.

I think people will say c rig is more versatile and will let you cover more water. Personally, I like drop shot way more, have caught way more fish, and can fish it on a spinning rod that you'd use for wacky, weightless stuff. I've also drop shotted on my t rig setup, pitching it like a jig to stumps and lay downs.
There are no fish in sonic pond EDIT: Except 1 20lb catfish

It depends.....you just fishing for a limit, or are you fishing to win?

Drop shot without a doubt. It is a less expensive setup need and more versatile. On most days it will assure you a limit and it can bring a kicker fish from time to time. C-rig is hit or miss in my opinion.

C-rig by a mile and vary the weights you throw with. Lighter is more versatile

If I had to do only one , C-Rig for sure . But both have there benefits . And , both have a completely different action on the plastic your using . C-Rigs have a more " subtle " action to the plastic , the longer the leader , the more subtle the bait looks . D-Shots have more movement , even if your trying to keep the bait perfectly still , the d-shot always adds action to the plastic .

I love throwing a C-rig but I would choose the Drop Shot over it. I drop shot with a bait caster and 12-15 pound fluorocarbon line. I use finesse as well as trick worms on my drop shot. Like someone already said, you can fish the drop shot like the C-rig with a dragging motion, and you can also pitch it like you would a T-rig.

I am with ezbassin on this, baitcaster for everything. IF you use a MH rod with a FAST tip (baitcasting) you can fish both with one rod. Not as efficiently as you would with separate rods, but it CAN be done. Generally, it has been my experience that bigger fish come on a C-rig rod over a drop shot rod. BUT, you catch more fish, even though smaller, with a drop shot rod. PM me if you would like some help doing both with one rod. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
