Let me say Happy Thanksgiving first! I am thankful for fishing!

I got my Motorguide Xi5 back from the shop 10 weeks ago and it was fine. I have been distracted for 10 weeeks and not used it. I used it yesterday and today and it wont anchor. It will kind of run a steady course lock, but when anchored, it does not respond even though it chirps.

I have calibrated doing the M111 drill and counter lock wise circles. I also did the M112. I put a new battery in thinking it was a power issue as it wore down quicker than normal, but that didnt do it.

Any ideas? Is it a short maybe?

Last one that I heard of having a similar problem, it was needing a software update. It had been updated at the repair facility but needed it redone. The motor guide refused to send him what he needed to do an update as they said it wasn't the issue. After getting the update again, it was fixed.

I believe his situation was like yours if memory serves me right. Do a search as it was within the last couple of months

Ahhhhh!

THANKS Bobby, Travis, and Scott!! Now that makes sense! I knew it worked before this week.

NOW THE BIG QUESTION - anyway to get that update around Tarrant County to run it for the rest of this vacation week?

Why do these companies run updates like this without notifying customers/ owners? Trying to sell new units? Glad there was no $ on the line like a tournament or guided trip.

Double thanks to Travis and Boris Marine who did such good work on it this summer.!!

Mine quit anchoring and a shop changed out the gps module. After I got it back it would still not anchor and would only somewhat track. Turns out they put the gps module in upside down. Flipped it over and it worked fine.

Thanks Chuck. Was that the update others speak, or did they totally replace the gps portion of your unit?

So Traivs and Scott, does this update apply even to units NOT hooked up to a depth finder? I don't believe mine is hooked up to the depth finder as the NMEA cable does not appear to be attached.

This doesnt seem to make much sense. So why would you need to update it? What about for those people who dont live near a marine shop? Does it need to be sent in?

It appears to be an error from what I understand, where it needs the software updated. I believe that they will send you what you need to do the update if you can convince them that is the issue. Just keep it in the back of your head so if you ever start having issues, it might just be a software problem.

Have you called MG? They were extremely helpful for me and I had tons of issues with my Xi5 at first.
