Fishing has been off and on for me lately.
Last Friday, Hickory Nut & I found some grouped up on Timber, 20' deep in 32 fow.
We put a
WHACKING on them in short order - 34 in the box
On Tuesday, the 14th, I took out my buddy John and his brother, Rick.
We hit 2 lakes and only ended up with 15 crappie and a big catfish
When I have days like that, I can't sleep at night and wake up the next day with desire to hunt them down
On Wednesday, the 15th, Belinda & I had business to take care of in Winnsboro,
and after several stops, didn't get back home till 2pm.........
I almost didn't go out.................
ALMOST!I launched at 2:30, hit my normal 1st deep water pile, 26fow, in that area of Fork.
Caught a couple of nice 11' keeper blacks, then small fish.
I then ran to a deep water brush pile, 36fow, dropped my jig, got a couple of light thumps, but no hook up.
Reeled my jig in to check it, applied some Garlic Slab Slobber.
As I was dropping my jig back down, I noticed a big bleep on the 360 sitting atop of the bp,
As soon as I stopped my jig above the brush, 32' deep, I got a solid thump and my rod tip sank back down to the water
I seriously thought I had a bass from the fight the fish was giving me, but as soon as I got a glimpse, I reached for the net.
Once I netted the fish, I thought I had a 2.75-2.85# fish, took a couple of photos and pitched it into the livewell....
It's now 2:56
I caught a couple more really nice fish there, moved to another deep bp and caught some more good fish.........
Decided to hit another spot on the way back to the ramp.... nada
Loaded the boat at 5:12 and put the batteries in my scale.......
It was then that I had a meltdown.....Had to reset the scale and measure twice more
3.17#'sLargest crappie I've ever weighed.....
(Not sure about caught as I caught lots of really huge crappie at night on Cypress Springs in the spring time that I just filet)
I had 16 other crappie in the box, most in the 1.5-2# range that looked like dinks compared to her
Here's a few more pics
I can only wonder what she would have weighed full of eggs
She's wrapped up in a wet towel, in the freezer awaiting my decision on where take her to get mounted.
Sent some pictures to John & Rick whom are still camped out at Lake Cypress Springs.......
They'll be here the 1st of next week to fish again
I've been catching the better fish on 2.5" Pearl Ice Tadpole with the tail dipped in Chart Spike-It on an Orange head
