So, which N. Texas spot will give me my best opportunity, Texoma or Grapevine?

Can anyone give me general areas/patterns/baits on where to target smallies on Grapevine or Texoma? Wife and baby are out of town so I've got some rare opportunities for a fish free for all.... I'm leaning towards hitting Texoma Sun or Monday since the wind looks favorable and because I can always target striper if I'm not having any luck with Smallies.

Thanks!

Texoma, cranks or jerkbaits east end of the lake I would start with the points or dam

Depending on where you put in. The dam early and all the areas mentioned above also with jerk baits

Or Lake Murray. Just a few miles across the Ok border off I35. WAY better odds at some smallies!

My client caught his first smallies with me on Texoma today.
We had 15-20 smallies, & 4-5 spots & LM. All on square bills

Smallies are getting feisty on Texoma. It's prime time of the year for them.

Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

30mph north wind forecasted for Big Tex Saturday. Be careful.

Probably best to go out of Alberta Creek or Catfish Bay with big winds like that. You won't be fishing a South bank.

Haha BigTex! Yea, I'm staying in bed Saturday, 30 MPH winds with gusts of 40! I've got a flats boat! No gracias, I am waiting until Sun/MOnday. Okay I will start dam and work those steep rocky ledges, points, and docks. Gonna rig up some square bills, maybe some Carolina rigged bifflebugs or craws. When you say jerkbaits, do you mean the hard jerkbaits with a lip like a crank, or do you mean soft plastic jerk baits? Honestly I will probably try both. Love fishing the plug type hard jerk baits, and I think the smaller soft plastic jerkbaits Carolina might be good?

If you had to choose.... would you chase the birds for striper early and then smallmouth fish or smallmouth fish early and try for striper later? I know I should just stick to one..... ugh... decisions.

Chase the smallies early and in between spots when you see the birds working go smack a few stripers. Tons of birds working last weekend, striper were easy to find.

Can catch them at the same time by the bank if they have the bait pushed up on points. My best luck last 2 weeks came on 6-8ft diving cranks and pro blue 110 jerkbait.
