Hey guys, I just wanted to share a little bit of what is going on at Toledo Bend right now. I have been catching 30-60 bass per day in 18-23' of water. The key is to utilize your electronics to find the right group of fish. Right now I'm finding fish on long tapering points with a creek channel swing running next to it. The steeper contours seem to be holding more fish but when they are feeding heavy they will move up to any hard spots on top of the point. That is when you can really catch them. A dropshot is almost always best for numbers, but a jig and crankbait have been catching better fish. I'm a full time youth pastor, but I also guide part time so if you want to learn how to read electronics and find fish I'll gladly teach you.
Also, I had Donald Harper do some mapping for me on Toledo just to see what all the buzz was about and all I can say is that I'm amazed at what I've learned on a lake that I know like the back of my hand. He gives you spots to fish, but what's even better is that he gives you a new perspective of what subtle things to look for in order to be more productive on the water. For those of you who are trying to learn offshore fishing, I would recommend getting Donald to map out your lake for you then get in the boat with someone who is good with electronics and learn how to read your graphs. Putting good mapping and graph knowledge together is a deadly combination!

How long had you been fishing Toledo Bend before Donald's mapping lead you to the new way of thinking/fishing?

I wonder are these mapping tips seasonal or do you fish these Spots all year round?
I am fishing some new big bass lakes and am gonna get Mr Harper to look at them to save my time. I am finding fish there but I am curious how closely we think. These lakes are deep by Florida standards 30 feet plus. Thanks for leaking my interest. Show us some pics!!!

I've been fishing Toledo since I was a kid, but have been fishing it hard for about 10 years now. It's amazing how Donald's mapping has pointed out subtle things in places that I've been fishing for years, but never noticed.

He gave me spots for different seasons, but explained in his write ups that many of them can hold fish in more than one season, you just fish for them a little differently. There are many good marked places that hold fish anytime they are migrating deep to shallow or shallow to deep. The key seems to be to fish them at different times to catch the fish holding there during their migration. What most people don't realize is that these migratory routes aren't just for pre and post spawn, they will use these same routes or similar routes to move up to feed. And pics will be coming soon!

Thanks for the report Bass_Fanatic. Have the bass moved to the back of the creeks, or are these spots more main lake locations? Might be heading out there this weekend.

You can catch fish just about anywhere right now. The key is fishing around either bait or groups of fish. Quite a few are moving to the backs of creeks, but most of what I do is on the main lake. I believe that the majority of the main lake fish never go to the creeks.

Keep us posted and thanks. If I can ever get a day off from work plan on heading up that way The water temps have been in the low 70's. His cooler speed should knock it down into the 60's. The fish are in the fall transition which means they are scattered out from the main lake to the back of creeks, but once you find them, you can catch them in a hurry. If you ever want to go give me a ring.

Quick question regarding the mapping. Since Toledo Bend is so big did you ask for a particular section of the lake to be mapped? Thanks for the post
