It seems the default is that the Shakey Head is fished on spinning rigs....does anyone out there fish (or prefer to fish) on casting?

Collincountytx.....when you say skip, I assume that means fishing docks? Just want to get the lingo/meaning correct - I have not been much of a dock fisherman.

Yes sir. Much easier for me to skip a shaky head around and under docks/tree limbs/etc with spinning gear. Im just not good skipping light lures with a bait caster

I always use spinning gear because I'm typically throwing 1/8 - 3/16 oz. shakey heads. For me, these lighter sizes are easier and more accurate to throw on spinning gear. I like 30# braid with 12# mono leader.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I prefer casting but I can use spinning gear with no problem.

Baitcaster for me on a ML rod. I often do a double rig, shakey head and drop shot and it gives me a lot of power to set the hook properly. Can't fish a circle hook like that, but you can set teh hook right sharply on the baitcaster. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I'm dead on with Thad. I run baitcast with a 7' ML rod. I can skip a shaky head under a rock farther than I can skip a jig by a long shot. 12lb seaguar red label flouro a 100 size reel no brakes and it flys.
I can backlash toilet paper.

Baitcast with 15lb line. No problems skipping. Don't like throwing it on spinning.
Keep on keepin' on

I power-fish a shakey head. Screwball jighead 4/0 hook in 3/16 on 12-15 lb line, MH Fast rod. Same setup I use for flukes and senkos around thick grass, pads, trees, rocks, docks, etc.

I use baitcast and a mh rod with bigger shakeyheads 1/4 and up, spinning mf rod with the light stuff. My opinion, I couldn't get good hook sets with the medium spinning rod on bigger hooks used in heavier shakeyheads.
