I�m somewhat new to crappie fishing, one thing I know is when I drop a jig in a brush pile I always seem to get hung up, how do you fish a brush pile not get hung up ?

Or better yet , how do I get Unhung ?

Use weedless jigheads.

Use a 3/4 oz. weight. Attach it to the line and let it slide down to the jig.

Like the old saying goes..."If you're not hanging up then you're not crappie fishing". It's going to happen. After awhile you will learn the difference in feel of a thump and a limb bumping your jig and even then you'll still hang from time to time. If anyone's watching just fight it like a fish and swear there was a crappie on it.
Sometimes to get unhung you can pull the line snug and pop it like a banjo string. May have to do it several times but it works on occasion.

Cliff Spindle taught me to use old spark plugs and attach a swivel to it by bending down the gap. Works like a charm.

I use light wire hooks with small diameter braided line. You just straighten the hook when you get hung up. Bend back in shape with some pliers and get back to fishing.

I used to hate getting hung up and tried a bunch of stuff to try to make my stuff 100% snagless. Eventually came to the conclusion the most efficient thing to do is to use min 10lb line and straighten the hook out when snagged (pull slowly don't jerk it or the line will still break) and then bend it back. It beats retying every time..... If you're getting hung up ALLLLL the time in a nasty pile then Southern Pro makes some heads that hook into the jig belly just like a senko rigged snagless. It works amazing and doesn't have an issue hooking the fish. I mostly use them just for something like shooting a jig under a dock filled with heavy suspended brush, or casing and retrieving over a pile from the bank like in the creeks in winter.

X3. I don't go to jerk the [censored] out of it either, tighten drag, point the pole straight at where it's hung and pull straight back nice and slow. I don't care about re tieing or losing the jig/hook as much as not disturbing fish on the brush.

Being hung up is just a part of crappie fishing. After you fish for a while, you will be able to tell the difference between brush and a fish.
