What happens when the hackers get it? From the little I've read I haven't seen if these accounts are insured or not...

What happens when the founder cashes in his $25 billion worth of bitcoins and makes the currency value near worthless? Are people going to be up in arms if they lose their life savings like the Enron folks did.

That article seems to suggest it's an untraceable currency that is a favorite of those buying drugs online. That's enough of a reason for me to stay away from it. And weapons too! I'm sure the site I was shown is a government run site, cant imagine grenade launchers actually being purchased and shipped via USPS but they are on there for sale clear as day. Free shipping! LOL I've dabbled in it a little after seeing a buddy turn $500 into almost $10k. So far I've more than doubled my money.

Does anyone else actually mine? It's not worth it anymore. Mining farms took over. You can join a farm and still earn that way, but the hay day of individual miners has passed.
What a maroon!

I've read about it a bunch and still don't fully understand it. Can't bring myself to buy any. Not to mention with all the hype right now there is a good chance you'd be buying near the top.
Here's the best I can tell. Computers spend electrical energy to run programs that basically work through trillions of calculations to find/unlock bitcoin blocks (25 bitcoins). From what I understand your average home computer would take about 98 years of constant running to unlock a block. At the end of the day it's not all the different than gold. These virtual currencies require "work" (in the form of electrical energy) to "mine" them in a strange way creating their value.
I can hold an ounce of gold though. I can't hold or even understand the computer code that governs these bit coins. This is what everyone has to get over. There isn't enough gold to back the paper currency we all have in our hands. That's a FACT Jack, still we have become so hardwired to believe that it's backed by something tangible it holds more value in our mind. But when you get right down to it, Bitcoin is actually backed by something more tangible than most currency. The FED just keeps printing more money which is really debt and we just keep believing that it's a solid foundation. It's really no more solid than Computer Algorithms. All that said, I guess I'm old fashioned to cause I still don't own any.

We started in Early June so the coin we made in the beginning really paid off now, wish we would have gotten into it sooner. Now even that is saturated pretty badly, we still run it and my BTC payment is around $160/month at the current price edit: (the BTC payment comes out to $160 worth/month)

Developers and miners headbutting but looks like ~80% support segwit2x.

Not in BTC directly, but have invested some in GBTC, a bitcoin investment trust. Been in about six months. Definitely have not gotten rich, but have made a little pocket change.
