Hi All,
Used to be avidly fishing every day and then started a family and have been mostly MIA the last 4-5 years. I forgot a lot of stuff during that time! Time to get back in the swing of things!
I bought a kayak and was planning on taking it out on Lewisville Saturday morning but it will be right after this cold front. From what I remember - the fish slow down quite a bit after a cold front rolls in, right? Is the best move scheduling a different time or just fishing small and slow?
Also - if anyone would like to share a spot to launch from which isnt too exposed - that would be very helpful. Was thinking I would park and launch around Stewart Creek Park. (I know there is a kayak section but I'm mostly interested in the cold weather affecting the fishing)
Thanks ahead of time for any replies!
Big B

don't go to Lewisville saturday with a kayak. There's going to be a high school tournament with about 250 boats I think.

Find objects that retain heat (rock, concrete, wood, lily pads, grass)
Could be one of those days where the bite turns on in the afternoon when the sun has had a chance to warm things up a bit.

Usually cold fronts in the Fall don't affect fish that much. This one might be an exception... If it were me, I'd fish slow. And as was said above, the afternoon/evening may be better.

You think they'll be up the creek channels, or more by the bridges, rocks, etc...

Depends on how much cover there is. I would start in the back 1/3rd of a creek and go out from there. Temps don't play a role in the shad migration like people think IMO. They've already made a big run on rayburn and they did last year also before it got cold or the water dropped to much. They do it by how long the days are. Also, it's by feel. When you get those early feelings like it's fall in the air like we started getting about a month ago, they get the same thing and start to move. The weather will determine how strung out they get during the move. If it stays on the warm side they will get real spread out and will be everywhere from summer spots to extreme shallow. If it stays pretty constant fall weather there will be a better migration. Just my .02 and fish really do whatever they want so you still have to look for them every time out
