I'm fishing in my first tournament tomorrow in Matagorda (trout, reds and flounder). I can fish East or West Bay. What areas do you guys target with a strong N wind? I'm not looking for honey holes, just general guidelines.
I have fished the grass in the ICW with decent success for reds, but haven't had much luck on trout or flounder. Fishing starts at 5 AM. General gameplan is to fish the lights along the lower Colorado for trout before sunrise (may abandon if all dinks). And then bounce artificials along deep water shelfs in the ICW and lower CO. My thought process is the fish may move to the warmer deeper water with this front moving in. The tide forecast calls for a falling tide all morning, so the bay should be pretty shallow, coupled with the strong 15-20 N winds. Thoughts on artificial vs live bait? All tips are appreciated!
We are in a 16' Xpress with a 25 hp, so we want to stay as close to Matagorda as possible.
