After thanksgiving going to hit the Brazos for flyfishing for striper my flyfishing rod has old line I need to know what I need for the set up for striper all the way from tippit to backing please

What rod? And will you be fishing very deep or just top water?

I've used my 5wt with weight forward floating line with about a 8ft leader of 12lb test mono with 8lb tippet. White/chartreuse clousers and gummy minnows work well.

Stripers are notorious for cutting leaders with their extremely sharp gill plates....because of that, 20 pound test tippet is minimum. Flouro should be your leader material. Be sure your knot tying is adequate. They will test your knots to the limit and beyond.

If using clousers, then you likely will benefit from an intermediate sinking line to get the clousers down faster than they would with a floating line.

Fluoro leader is a good bet. I've used 10 or 12 lb line and can still lean on 'em, pretty good. For fly line I'd recommend a medium sink tip line, what they usually call "streamer tip".

I learned to fish for stripers using a mono running line (18 # Amnesia) and a fast sinking shooting head. I've also made the shooting head using about 25 feet of lead core line. 30 # Dacron Backing, then the Amnesia, the shooting head, and a strong mono leader, nail knotted. You have to double haul this rig, and a stripping basket helps a lot. I've "belted" those plastic milk crates for this. Yeah, a lot of new stuff to acquire and learn, but that's part of the fun. Good to have a spare spool for your 8 wt rig set-up for this. As for learning to double haul, saw a lady do a demo at a fly show, and it worked for me. Find a nice lawn area, cast in one direction, then turn 180 degrees, and cast in the opposite direction. After a while, you'll get the rhythm and timing. The idea is to get the shooting head loaded, then fling it with coils of the running line piled up outside the reel. You can set the length of the shooting head first on the lawn. You want to be able to pick it up without the shooting head entering the reel. When fishing, you strip it back until the shooting head is just about half way to the reel, pick it up using a roll cast to start the haul, then a couple of false casts to load the rod and get the shooter past all the guides, and away she goes.

From what I saw from guide John Shank www.lonestarflyfishing.com ? You may be way underestimating the size of a few of these monster striper. And once they get fed a fresh rainbow, or two ... huge flies, rods with real backbone, sinking tip lines. Let me put it this way, Shank saw a striper "eat a 20" largemouth bass in two bites." He showed me a phone pic of a striper they found dead - weighed 47-pounds.
