I just bought a new truck. If you'd have asked me 5 years ago I'd have told you I'd never do that in my whole life. I ran the math a dozen different ways though and buying new made sense. The used market for trucks is so tight right now that to get a 2 year old vehicle with 15-20K miles it was only between 4-6K cheaper than a brand new vehicle.
I shopped around the whole country, found the lowest price I could on the new truck I wanted and then got a local dealer to match the price. I wound up paying 5K more than what I could find the same used truck for, but I got exactly what I wanted and don't have to worry about having bought someone else's problem.

This is spot on...Dallas first is a hot truck market, second the whole country is buying slightly used trucks which has created a tight market, third - there is a whole new business which has evolved in the last few years involving the high volume used market brokers who have taken much of the advantage of used away by gobbling up the used cars and taking the few grand we used to save. Cars a whole different story - trucks, because of some of the crazy dealer incentives I would buy new and wait for exactly the right time (like about right now till Dec).
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Yes, I agree.... the used truck market is where it is right now. Used vehicle dealerships everywhere, and the lot is full of Crew Cab nice vehicles. If I did not have to worry about hauling around the old folks (Parents), I would go back to either an extended cab or single cab.

All these lots that carry the note are able to pay more for the used vehicles due to the interest charged. I agree for the most part buying new makes more sense.

That is exactly what happened to me last time around. slightly used were not much cheaper and interest rates for them were higher than the promo i got buying new.

Id go visit Brian Spagnola before I bought a new one. You still may decide to buy new, but my guess is that he might help you with that too...

I do help people all the time get a better deal on a new one of any make. And he's absolutely right. Truck prices have pretty much stayed about the same for the last few years. These trucks keep getting more and more expensive every year, driving the market on the pre owned ones. Sure you can spend 5-6k more on a truck and get a new one. But, in order to get the truck that cheap you have to take the rebates. And if you take the rebates you don't get the good financing. So if I sell a 2017 Silverado for 40,000 and they put no money down. The payments would be $769 a month a 2.9% interest. That number includes TTL. The same truck brand new at the standard rate of 5.9%, and a price of $45,000 the payments would be $931 So over 60 months you actually would pay $9720 more for the new truck. With that being said we have bought 5 brand new Chevy's from Tony and Monte in the last 3 years.
