+ 1. Wait for the sales (Sinister, Gator, etc) and go aftermarket.

Did not think this would happen to me as I am easy on my truck. Well, my pipe just blew on my 2011 with 75,000. I don't "hot rod" or tow heavy loads (bass boat on weekends at most). Not a load pop, but the sudden loss in power was immediately noted. The truck ran afterward (I drove it to the dealership), but with decreased power. The Ford dealership did a great job, and they got me in and out in less than an hour. Ford has not upgraded this part--it is exactly the same as the original. The dealership also had to do a filter clean procedure , so even if I had a spare part I could not have done that part of the repair. I did order an aftermarket replacement part after the above repair, and that part is now in place. There are several of these aftermarket kits out there: I purchased the one from H&S Motorsports (installed it myself in about 45 minutes). The H&S part is much more robust than the Ford part and the part coming off the turbo is metal for about 5 inches (this is where the original Ford part ruptured).

If you have not upgraded your truck with the aftermarket kit, it is just a matter of time before your truck blows up and you are in limp mode.

I think they all have soft spots. The trick is to communicate with other owners and realize where the preventive maintenance dollars need to be spent first. The F250 6.7 intercooler tubes need to be replaced in the first 80k or so and provide peace of mind for $200, plus they look great. Keep your fluids topped off and do oil changes on time. Rotate and balance the tires every other or third oil change. Replace the tires at 6/32 tread depth. If you are no longer a strong young buck, realize that you can no longer change a flat on the roadside, so get signed up for AAA or equivalent. F250 brakes are another soft spot. If you haul heavy, expect brake wear and OEM rotor warpage by 100k. Replace the rotors with good drilled and slotted rotors and give them new towing tough pads.
It gets expensive in the short run, I just laid out over $1,000 to upgrade my warped brakes and replace my front tires, but we can travel with confidence and safety.
