Anyone fished at Red Oak Municipal Lake at Pearson Park lately? Looking for a place nearby to take my son.

I figured that too but its not bad. Ran down there for about an hour this afternoon and caught a bass that was probably between 12-18 inches. Had a couple more good hits I didnt quite hook. Couple of other guys looks like they got a couple too. Not the most peaceful place with I35 right there but will probably try it again with my boy. Hell at least like the playground. smile

been there many times. there are bass and lots of sunfish in there. Largest bass by me was about a 20" about 4-5 years ago. the lake has been fished out here in the last few years. People are keeping what they catch with no concern for the regulations in place for the lake. I would say over 4 years ago they drained and cleared out the lake and it did improve but any fish the TPWD put in where quickly taken out. having said that there are still some decent fish in there.
Near the playground area the two little jetties do go out to about 8-10 feet deep out just in front of them. When it dried up I could walk out in front of them and at the base I had to look up a few feet to see the tops of them.
I have had luck on sassy shad swimmers with little weight T-rigged. when the moss is thick I throw a jig on a slip cork set at about 4 ft behind the moss beds and do good on that. Lots of sunfish to keep a kid busy. Largest I caught have been several over 10"long . Just wish people would clean up after themselves.
Hope this helped.

May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.

Thanks L.A.

Amen on the trash and on people taking the fish. Good to know about those jetties as far as the depth. I was fishing over on the north side because it was the middle of the day and had some shade there. I was fishing a Texas rigged baby brush hog but didnt seem like the easiest place for a hook and bobber over there cause of the growth.

On the West side of the pond, the city also ran a drainage pipe from the neighborhood guaranteeing more trash coming into the pond after every rain. It was a decent place, to teach a child how to fish, unwind yourself and even practice fly fishing.
