Need help deciding what flippin combination to buy. I currently am using a 7'BPS Viper rod and reel combo and have tried Fireline and Power pro but can't seem to get it down. Every other cast it seems I am clean a small backlash and am probably missing bites in doing so. I have been wanting a 7'6" stick, but not sure what good reel for flipping would compliment it. Just about decided on a Falcon for the rod and have heard alot about the abu revo. Any suggestions? Thanks,
Little Hogg

I just recently bought 2 new revo sx's. Haven't gotten to use them enough to really dial them in. They seem to be a little more senisitive to dial in than my Curado's. I also had a few problems with using the powerpro with my new revo on my flippin rod.
I really think the Revo is going to be a good reel. I would also say, try to find you an older green Curado. Really hard to beat for the price. I guarantee someone on here has one they would sell. Coach

First I would like to say that the Falcon rod would be my first choice, prefferably the Cara model. For a reel, I have never used anything but Shimano. I would suggest the new Curado 100D.

On the rod, I would go with a Falcon Cara cc-6-17h, or if I could ever find one localy a cc-6-176 would be what I actually prefer.

The Shimano/Falcon combination is a winner!

I agree with Larry. Shimano/Falcon is a winner! Start there and see if it doesn't suit you. Learn to use it in the backyard. Then when you get on the water, you can fine tune your technique. As for the line, I like Power Pro, but like the rest, it is a matter of personal preference. Find something that suits you, and stick with it. Good Luck. J

Just got a Revo, I can't say enough about it. It's like heaven in the form of a fishing reel. 'nuff said.

I use an older Curado 200 and a Falcon 7ft Carolina Lizard Dragger (pool stick) for Falcon lake--only diff is I use Yozuri 25lb copolymer--if they hang you in the trees--it don't matter what kind of line you have. Once you get them started in the right direction, most will come right out. You may have to re-tie every fish, but I get more bites than my partner.

Daiwa reel for sure. Fuego or the Viento if you use a lefty reel or the TDX 103HSDF for righties. The ease with which the line comes off the spool on the Daiwa's cannot be duplicated by no Shimano. IF in doubt I can show you.
I use Gloomis flipping sticks in 4 power or the better Daiwa flipping sticks for rods. I like 7'6" rods for better control and distance. If I am flipping light weight jigs an 844 or 843 Gloomis will do fine.

My favorite pitching/ flipping reel is the Shimano Castaic. It has a thumb bar that lets you reengage the spool.
