Will a cottonmouth/water moccasin flatten its neck like a cobra? Sorry no pic.

Haven't seen one that did that . But I don't look at them long fight or flight depending on how close a shovel is .

Sounds like a hog-nosed snake . ^ That was my first thought. It was 2’ long, dark green/black no pattern, triangle head, about 1 to 1 1/2 “ thick. Right next to a creek in rural AR. It was on the road when we passed on our Rhino. When it seemed to flatten its neck it was retreating but it was pissed.

When I looked up the pictures of hognose they had patterns like rat snakes.

Those are Westerns. Look at the Eastern Hognose.

Ok, looked at YouTube and I’m going with eastern hog-nosed. I think a WM would have attacked...hence the reason we didn’t get off the Rhino. I told my wife we need to take the phone for the camera...no signal in the forest.
