Suppose that one were contemplating a gift of a new 1911 style pistol (by 'gift' I mean that I pay for it, but the person getting it actually goes with me to the gun store to fill out the 4473 and pick it up). Assume that the person has not expressed any preference one way or the other - in his opinion, both are good.
If price were not a huge concern (better yet, say the price is identical), would any of you express a preference for one over the other? If so, why for?

I vote for Sig. Kimber is not close to the same quality they were 10-15 years ago.

SIG Sauer
There is no substitute
My question is why anyone would want a 1911

Sig
My BIL has a Kimber 1911 and a sig 1911 scorpion. The sig just shoots better and is smoother.

Sig all the way. I have a Sig Extreme and it is dead on accurate. Love the Hogue grips as well.

Sig.
And I only say that because I know US Marshal. Who may spend a lot of time on airplanes. They are issued Sigs.
He likes them. Said his second choice would be a Glock.
But really I think it all comes down to personal preference. All of the big-name manufacturers make reliable and high-quality sidearms.

I have 2 Sigs and 3 Kimbers. all are very nice firearms. But I prefer the Sigs. I shot a Nighthawk today and it is a nice gun also but very pricey.JMO

Neither!! For a 1911 in that $$ range I'd get a Dan Wesson or a SA RO Elite.... Kimber QC has become trash and the Sig is not really a true 1911... I've fired and disassembled all four recently

I'm quite happy with my little Colt.
