Tried the northeast shoreline from the Gaylord to the dam with topwater plug early in the morning without success. Briefly trolled a crankbait also with no success. Settled for the aerator where the white bass were very cooperative. Probably a fish on every third cast, would hit a rattletrap type bait or a topwater - didn't really matter what you tossed out. Left the fish biting at about 10:00 and paddled back to the ramp. Nice morning on the water, not too hot and lake flat.

Do you have a paddle or peddle yak?
If its a paddle hows that work with the trolling? I need to work on that; getting my rod holder right to that with my paddle yak. I kept snagging the line with my paddle the one time I tried.

Paddle power. I have two Scotty holders mounted in the center of the yak about 4 feet forward of the seat. I can troll with two rods on opposite sides of the yak with the holders angled slightly forward and up about 30 degrees. I use 7 foot rods to keep the line far enough away from my paddle.

I pretty much do the same as JCG57. I have track mounts on each rail in front of me. Set the rod holders up the same as his and no problems. You can paddle and turn but just make slow wide turns. I like them in front of me because I can see a fish on without looking back and up. Also they are easier to get out and start reeling in.

I used to fish grapevine quite a bit from my Hobie Revolution and trolled often. If I was moving to a new spot I always trolled something. Rat-l-traps work, but if you stop to reel in one rod the Rat-l-trap on the other will sink and get snagged. I preferred floating crankbaits. The original Rapala shad rap seemed to work well. Sometimes I would put a shallow running lure on the side closest to shore and a deep diver on the other side and then pedal along in 15-20 feet of water. A fish finder/GPS unit really helps - just follow along the shore at whatever depth you are targeting.

I usually troll two lipped crankbaits (usually Bombers), one designed to run 10-12 feet and the other a little deeper and use the depth finder to try to keep both baits within a few feet of the bottom. That technique produced my two largest largemouth on Grapevine.

A buddy and I wade fished Murrell Park Saturday morning. Couldnt have asked for better weather! Only got one bass to hand, but enjoyed the lake as a first timer.

Were you the one we had to get your lure untangeld from the front of your yak at the Bubbles Monday? Yes! Thanks again for the help. Always dicey to try to work forward to the front of the yak to get a treble hook out of a bungee cord, especially in 40+ feet of water.

Thanks for the tips on trolling guys.
I knew it could be done I just have to play with my set up and angle. Love trolling from my Bass Hunter when I am not using the yak; one of the best ways to catch fish and a wide variety of fish too.
