Morning, So one of trailers that I help pull for the church was making an ugly sound yesterday. I didn't notice it until I lowered down the windows (it was hot and I had the AC on full blast). Upon pulling over and inspecting, this is what I found on one of the wheels: I know for sure the rim and studs are gone and need to be replaced. However, I don't know whether the whole hub assembly needs to be replaced. I would first like to at least change the studs, then put the spare tire on there. But I don't know if these studs are the ones you bang out with a hammer, or the kind that unscrew off. I need to fix this before Saturday. Our church doesn't have its own building for worship and service. We're borrowing a space from a private school. I take the trailers to the school on Saturday afternoon for unloading and setup, and take them back on Sunday afternoon after loading and teardown. This trailer is used to hold and transport about 200 chairs.

looks like it was recently put on, based on the mark for the wheel. I would make a phone call.
Also, you should be able to replace the studs, if you can get them out. Sometimes its easier to replace the hub assembly.

I've never seen that before! I'd say that a higher force was looking out for you and it was a miracle that the tire never came off the trailer. .gif)

I'd consider just replacing the entire hub, they're not that expensive and pretty simple to pull and install.

I was able to limp it to where we store the trailers. yes, it's a miracle the whole wheel didnt melt and break off.
How would I go by finding out if the studs are ones that you bang out with a hammer, or unscrew out? This trailer is one of the kinds that have brakes on them (not sure if that's important).
If I have to replace the whole hub, what am I looking at cost wise? Where would I be able to find one quickly?
I'd hate to ask to church pitch in. They've been setting up a fund to give to local Hurricane disaster victims to help them get back on their feet. So far they've given out $11k

About $40-$65 for a new hub assembly, another $70-$90 if you pay someone to do it. Youtube is your friend!

Whoever put on the tires the last time did not tighten them down properly. Or being on a trailer...the nuts should be checked for tightness often...they are prone to backing off.
It's one of those things to check before pulling out.

That aint no joke, it could take several hundred miles to get like that, depending on its usage it could've been a while back. But there's no question about it, whoever worked on that tire didn't get it right. Probably ran the first lug up tight, and the wheel wasn't flush on the hub. I know from my experience with Discount Tire, they'll make it right.
