I misplaced the key to my boat. I can't find the thing anywhere. How easy is it to get a new key or new ignition? 91 Thunderbolt w/91 Merc. Force motor. This isn't the dumbest thing I've ever done, but it does rank up there kinda high.

Try the forum at http://www.iboats.com . I'm sure there are folks there that know where to find a new key and switch if needed. Another good source for parts is http://www.marineengine.com . Since your in Crowley, you may also call Fore and Aft Marine on I35 South in FW. Good luck!

If Force is compatable with Merc. just get a replacement Merc switch and wire it up. Or, you can make it keyless if you want to. A positive toggle will supply power to your ignition, an interruptor toggle will ignite your solenoid for start, and a push/pull can be rigged to choke the engine. Emergency kill can be added to the positive ignition switch. Don't PANIC! I bet the Force/Merc may be compatable.

Most repair facilities have a master set of factory keys. If your key switch is a factory installed switch they should be able to find the correct key and get you a duplicate.

DO NOT PUT A POSITIVE TO YOUR IGNITION. It will burn it out. Just get another key switch from the marina, automotive ones will not work, they are only around 20 bucks...............

Thanks for the input, think I will start with Tommy's idea first.

I just found a very worn down key that would fit the slot and go in. No problems in the last 6 years. That may be toooo redneck.
