I am curious as to how many of you would be interested in a separate forum dedicated to rod building? The DFW Metroplex has lost three of its best rod building teachers in the last eight years, Norm Goheen, Col. John Bradford, and Malcolm Duke. I have some questions regarding rod building to which I cannot find answers. I do follow a rod building group on facebook, but I don't seem to find the help for which I am looking. Mud Hole just wants to sell me products, which drives me crazy, and Cody is a good customer of theirs. Some other businesses have given up their rod building aspect, such as J. Stockard. I thought I created a poll, but I can't find it, so I'm just curious.
Thanks!

I am no expert by any means, or in Texas anymore for that matter. But I would still participate and may be able to answer any questions if I can. There is also a pretty good rod building forum over here 24 pages of it.

That does look like a good forum, but I would love to be able to get together with someone and watch these techniques in person. +1

I would be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. I've built a few rods in my days. Norm Goheen was one of my inspirations. He loaned me his planing forms to get my interest going into building split bamboo fly rods.

Malcolm Duke was a true gentleman. I met him only a few times, and he had the hand of a true craftsman.

P.M. me, and I will be happy to help you in any way I can.

Split cane is way above my pay and patience grade! I am wanting to use the tools I have, and buy the tools I need to create rods that look good, but are based on great blanks to begin with. My questions start with dust actually, as I am relegated to a shop that also hosts a clothes washer and dryer.

I would definitely be interested in a rod building forum.

Cody and I attended the Mud Hole Rod Building class this weekend in Bedford, and I will say even though we built a spinning rod, I learned many things that will improve my fly rod building. I felt it was worth the registration, and I did get an answer to the problem with my reel seat. I will video our attempt at fixing it, whether it works or not.

The Ft Worth club's own Joe Ashcraft is very involved thin the rod builders guild. He doesn't visit sites like these, but can help you if needed.

I do know Joe, and Cody and I met him at the 2014 Rod Builders Guild in the Metroplex the year it snowed. The second day of the Mud Hole class, we met a member of the DFW guild, website's librarian, I think, and between him and the Instructors, we got solutions to our problems. I wish there was a way to exchange ideas and information. I really do miss getting together at Norm's or Col. Bradford's. Loved it when Malcolm hosted a weekly rod building class at the Huddleston's place of business, though I could only attend once. Cody attended each meeting.

Malcolm' s class was fun, but so far I have resisted the temptation to add another hobby. smile
