I'd like to hear from some more seasoned OTers some general advice for those of us that haven't had as many days

My best friend (in his early 40s) almost died two years ago

His advice is to spend more time with family. He's always been an extremely ambitious over worker and spent his 30s at work hardly seeing his wife and kids. There's two sides to the coin---his motivation and self preservence are a big part of why he is alive today

Some advise for those in your 20s--
Spend less time on the internet/TV and more time reading books.

for some of us the internet and tv are all we have and I can't see well enough to read for more than about 10 mins.

Good stuff

Hop, they make books with big print. Suppose you could read a book via the internet and press ctrl and the "+" sign simultaneously to magnify/enlarge the page.

One big thing I believe I've learned over the years is that it seemed like when someone would seek advise, many many they times knew what the right thing to do is, and they seemed to be actually looking for affirmation of what they are going to do anyways.
And yet it's a process many of us go through anyway-
The ying and yang of working "too much" or "spending time" doing something they enjoy is governed by so many variables a person really has figure that out according to their own current circumstances and reconcile them with where they are in their personal and professional life VS where they want to be.
Short version of my two cents-

True. Life is like a box of chocolates; and some prefer the dark truffle and others the coconut cream.

One thing I have learned over the last two years dealing with Rue's problems is. No matter how bad my day seems to be, there's always someone out there that has had a worse day. Everyday of her short life is a struggle. Yet she takes it all in stride.

Rue and her mom are blessed to have you in their lives-
Sometimes reading about her struggle helps me put whatever percieved problems I have in perspective-
I'd gamble having them in your own life has enriched it more than they can know also-

Two students committed suicide at the university this summer. One was 26, the other 22...they chose to end their life before it even began. Unfortunately, I know they are not alone in their struggle with depression. I see it everyday in the faces of young men and women as they walk the campus. My advice? Remember to be kind to one another. Smile. Your smile may be the only one that someone has seen in days. Ask a stranger how they are doing and listen to them. Breathe. Just breathe.

I have a several friends from Vietnam. Their parents have never told them they love them. I can't imagine.

Take better care of yourself than your parents generation has. Eat more vegetables and less meat. Drink more water and less alcohol. Spend more time moving and less time sitting. If you do these things you'll avoid the diseases that plague our society now like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc.
