I have a friend who is a teacher in Galveston. She left this morning for College Station and has found out that that her superintendent is docking her pay for not being there. Her principal decided to leave too.

Galveston is not really even a "danger zone", only voluntary evacuation orders and that's primarily aimed at folks on the Bolivar Peninsula or immediately west of the sea wall. I have friends down there, leaving was never considered once they knew landfall was going to be in Corpus.

I don't know. I think a lot of people told them yesterday they were leaving this morning and then she found out this info at 5:30am today. I also think Galveston is set to start next week, so maybe she doesn't have vacation or sick days yet

School started or not, if she was required to be there then her pay should start, therefore she should of had a sick day.

Like I said I'm not sure. Maybe since this is her first year there she didn't want to call in sick when she had already notified her boss she was leaving town, and where I work I have to give 2 weeks notice for vacation. In the end I don't think she's worried about it. She's a really good worker and this will be the last issue she has with her boss. At least until the next hurricane. Her parents are well off too so I doubt she's sweating her teacher job too much.

No, Incredibly stupid is national news networks sending news crews (a reporter, sound and camera people) INTO an MANDATORY evacuation area in the name of ratings.

I know Corpus isn't under mandatory evacuation but guess who complains the most when power and water go out in their hotel.
And all these talking heads do is get in the way of people like power line crews who are trying to be part of the solution.
