Howdy y'all!!!
Looking for some input from people with experience. Was looking at getting either a kayak or a float tube so I can hit some good looking spots on the lake (really BIG pond) that I can't reach from the bank. The Vapor Angler 10 is at a good price for me and looks like a decent first kayak. But a float tube (a little cheaper) seems like it would be way easier to transport and store. I don't have my truck anymore so i would have to find a way to strap it to my car if I got a kayak. Float tube I can just throw in the trunk. I just want to try and find some input from somebody that has some experience. I've wanted a kayak for a really long time but just want to make sure that a float tube would'nt better suit me. Any input is appreciated.

Strapping to the car is no big deal, and you'll be so much faster and more mobile in the kayak.

There are a lot of ways to secure a kayak to a car roof. Also I have a friend with a little Chevy Aveo that he puts down the rear seats and slides his kayak in the from the trunk.

I've done it all...walk the bank fishing, wade fishing, belly float fishing, inflatable raft fishing, canoe fishing, kayak fishing and bass boat fishing...and, with the exception of a couple of bass boats, the kayak is the best way to go fishing IMHO.

Yep, I walked the bank as a kid and young adult. Then got a float tube while in college, a truck inner tube in a green canvas cover, and had a blast at Lake Somerville and Gibbons Creek. Had a BassTracker, and now really enjoy my kayak. That's the way to go--kayak beats float tube.

Finally off the bank, bought a Challenger 2 inflatable to carry in the motorhome. Rolls up into a bag. Great when we go to area lakes. Only $100 almost anywhere. Getting obsessed with adding pontoons to stand up, rod holders etc. Fun to just paddle around. Good luck!

Foam blocks is all that I have used on my Pontiac Vibe. No problems. Go with the kayak. You can fish shallower and faster. The float tube is a problem in grass etc.

Ok so I can't spend a whole heck of a lot on a kayak atm so that excludes the awesome Hobie's and Jackson's. So I'm looking at the Old Town Vapor, or the Perception Sound 10.5... The sound is $399 at Academy and the Vapor Angler is $450 on Cabelas. If I can manage to spend a little more money I would go with the Perception Pescador Pro from Academy for $729. I'll keep trying to find a good used kayak but the market seems to be a little dry for my price range. Thoughts?

I have had my Old Town Vapor for about 3 years and use it in the Guadalupe once or twice a week, summer and winter. I like the built in rod holders and sitting down in it in the winter out of the wind. Holds my tackle, punch bait and more.
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

I see used pescador pros for under $500 pop up on the kayak groups on Facebook. That is The route I would go. They are fun little boats. I had the 10 footer and wish I did not sell it. I'm gonna be on the lookout for another one for my son soon.

Here are a couple that you could install a couple of flush mounts on and be in business cheap. With cash in hand you can probably get them even cheaper than advertised and they aren't going to depreciate much at all. They are older boats but I'd take them over buying retail for some of the newer offerings in their price range. I don't know why the one below was offered as a Dagger Perception Acadia but I would make sure it is a 12 footer as advertised. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/boa/d/12ft-dagger-perception-acadia/6251514050.htmlTwo seater that you can use for one person or take a friend. Hard to find a two seater kayak for that price with two paddles. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/d/wilderness-kayak-with-oars/6288942086.htmlYou could use either of these for the next year and sell them for what you paid.
