# 21 but I was already in so I beat em.

The very first Vietnam Draft Lottery my number was 6, and I was already in them too, so I guess I was just destined to serve my country.

So this was way before I was born but using the logic here I would have been 176.

Would that have been a "your going" number? Or would that be safe? Like where was the cut line about?

And I assume each year you got a new number? Like a new chart was produced?

The thought of humping a ruck through the jungles of SE Asia did not appeal to me.

My former BIL was drafted even though he was in college and in good standing with the college but was drafted anyway. Being in Vietnam gave him a lifelong present of malaria.

What I do remember was every day the local newspaper listed how many of our troops died that day. It was terrible to see over a hundred people losing their life every single day.

In 1973 was classified as 1H waiting on the lottery. They stopped the draft that year so it was off to trade school and then to work.
Many thanks to all who served. We owe than so much.
