Several weeks ago I met a gentleman at Lake Athens going bass fishing at dark thirty. He used two 12 volt flood/spot lights for navigation. I forgot the brand name of the flood lights he used and I would like to get the name of them. I purchased two 15 watt LED lights from Amazon and they drain my battery at an alarming rate. I actually watched the drain using my multimeter. IF you read this forum PM me or just reply to my posts. Any advice would be welcome.

A 15w light shouldn't have that much of an amp draw to wear down your battery. You may need to check the battery, it may be bad...

Are you taking into consideration that your boat will be running with them on navigating so it will be charging as well?

What kind and size battery do you have? Those 15 watt lamps pull 1.25 amps and that is pretty low. For a comparison, it is less than your standard 500 GPM live well pump. As stated above, you will be charging while navigating.

I have their 27W floods mounted on my pontoon boat, two up front and one on the rear. I also have them on my Rhino UTV, one front and one rear. And then, I have four of them installed in my barn.

These are very bright, and do not attract bugs.

BTW, if you can connect your multimeter in series with your light and battery to measure current, see what your Amp draw is running. As was noted by TCK, it should be around 1.25 Amps for a 15W light.

I'm not familiar with Lake Athens, but unless it has a lot of timber or other hazards, you will probably be better off without those lights. You will be able to see whatever the lights are aimed at, but they will kill your night vision and you will be pretty well blind outside the illuminated area. Depending how they are mounted, they may prevent other vessels from seeing your navigation lights.

Also keep in mind that it's illegal to use these types of lights mounted to your boat while underway as they make it impossible for other vessels to see your navigation lights.

Visit Outrigger Outdoors website for their flounder gigging and bow fishing lights. They are 10,000 lumen and crazy bright, work great for traveling at night or for just acting as fish attractant. They are 12 volt and also remote control. I've got 8 on my flat bottom, work great.
