Had guest Phil and son mark on a morning trip to Hubbard this morning. Started at 7:30 am and finished at 11:30 am. Went through my nightly ritual of getting the boat ready the night before, started it up, arrange stuff yada yada… Backed the boat in the water this morning and guess what… not enough juice in the battery. I had this problem right when I got it, but figured it was because the boat sat up a while….But have determined when it gets cold I must have a bad cell. So Phil got there and said lets go to Walmart Put the new battery on and started right up… thanks for the ride Phil The main goal for today’s trip was so Phil could learn the lake a little….. Last night winds called for 8-12 mph… well by 10:00am it was 20 gusting to 30 mph. Left the marina and found birds working right off the bat, We never left that spot. It was to windy to do much else. After a hard fought wind, we ended with 67 on the clicker. Phil had some friends come in from out of town so he kept 26 really nice sandies and 2 legal hybrids. We must have caught 20 under hybrids today. Phil’s son mark was a trooper. He even worked the trolling motor today while I was retying lures so we wouldn’t drift down by the dam time I was done. If the winds we not as strong we could have stayed on the fish better but it was a beast. All fish caught in 15-30 ft water on 1 oz TNT slabs and ¾ oz humdingers, oh ya, and caught 1 hybrid on the mimic minnow Water was 64 degrees and winds were 15-30 mph N….. My trip for tomorrow chickened out because of the cold so we rescheduled for May. So honey do’s tomorrow Phil came to Bass Pro last time I was there and took advantage of the 10% discount I give on guide night and he is a fellow TFF member. Phil and mark, thanks for a great time.

Great job John. Conditions were not in your favor. Cancelled my trips yesterday. Too rough & cold for the young uns. Nice of your guests to help with the battery. David www.davesguideservice.net If I would have known that the wind was going to be that bad I might have tried to change their minds

Has there been a spread established on this contest? Is there an over/under line? Total weight, total numbers? Will ther be impartial observers? They might be hard to find. Inquiring minds want to know? George

Friday morning around 9:00 am i went from harbor bay marina in rockwall to the other side of heath, and almost died twice comeing back. The weather forcasted 14mph at 7:00 am and dying down to 9mph at 12:00 noon. Well the first close call was, i was standing and looking for timber, on the cell phone of cource, and i hit a stump with the motor, i fell forward and hit the throttle wide open, catching my self by gripping the steering wheel for dear life, i was able to throttle it back. That was close ! Life jacket went on, then i made the turn to main lake and 6 foot waves were everwhere i looked. They rolled over the bow and it was hard driving to get back to the ramp. It took about 1.5 hours to get back. I was just about crapping all over myself. My boat is only 15' long but she handled it okay and kept me safe. Needless to say the weather forcaster suck, i got home and check it again and it then said 25-30 mph gust. If i had any idea it would have been that bad i would have never ventured that far away. Thank god i made it back. Glad you trip turned out ok john. We ended up catching 5 large crappie and i now have a another hot spot to hit when the wind is calmer and the weather is warmer.

My son, Mark and I wanted to take a second and give John a BIG THANKS !!!! for a great fishing trip even though the weather was really bad. Mark and I fish the lake pretty regularly and read this forum on just about a daily bases so we were getting pretty fimilar with John even though we had not meet him. We went to the seminar he had the week before last at Bass Pro Shop on the evening that it rained really hard. John spent thirty minutes with Mark and I talking about fishing and tolorated us while we picked his brain about slab fishing. We also had the opportunity to see John demo the slabs in the fish tank that night. This was very helpful, it allowed us to see what kind of action John was putting on the slabs and how the fish were reacting to them. It wasn't until we were on the lake with John that we were able to put together the way John worked the rod, with the actions of the slabs we had seen a few days before. We had a great time fishing....well more catching than fishing....and can't say enough about Johns attitude and character. We have used alot of guides in the past but none have come close to John. If your looking for a great trip...especialy for the money.... give John a call. Thanks again John!!!!!!!!
