Been having problems with my Xi5 remote, it would just stop working I would open it up reinstall batteries and it would start back working, sometimes I could just bump it in my palm and it would work
Well this time it quit while I was fishing off a steep rocky bank and by the time I got on the outboard got it started and in reverse the wind had pushed me into the bank , damaged the Xi5 foot, prop and mounting bracket and the prop on my outboard trying to get out of there
Now MotorGuide Customer Service says there probably not going to even Fix the Xi5

I'm not surprised they aren't going to fix it. It sounds like you were using their product in a riskier-than-normal location while a part of it was malfunctioning, which resulted in further damage. Did you contact them beforehand for troubleshooting advice on the remote?

That pretty much settles my question of Ultrex or xi5. I'll wait on the ultrex

I love my Xi5 but will tell anyone to spend the money to get the Ultrex unless the only way you fish is using Spot Lock. The Ultrex wasn't available when I bought mine and I wish I would have waited. The foot control when you need it doesn't compare. Mine stays in the rod locker and I only use the remote which does make it a pain. I don't use the interface between it and the Lowrance graph very much so for me that feature isn't worth staying with Motorguide when I get ready to change out.

I was striper fishing on Possum Kingdom when this happened at least 50 feet from the bluff in 70' of water but by the time I realized the remote wasn't going to work got up from my fishing chair to the console got the outboard started the wind had push me into the bank and the problem with the remote was intermittent it had happened 3 or 4 times over a year
Outdoordude are you saying that would be a riskier-than-normal location for a MotorGuide Xi5 I guess then the only time to use a MotorGuide is when you already have a Minn Kota deployed for backup

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. My comment was based on the information that was provided initially.

Nothing worse than spending a bunch of money on something that glitches out randomly, I certainly sympathize with you.
