I use a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce kastmaster spoon and run it about a foot below the surface. You can throw em a mile and put whatever hook you want on it. I leave the treble on it and keep pliers in my pocket.

Agreed. Been catching white bass schooling running shad to banks in foot of water using spoons and slabs. Caught my largest white bass of the year last week on a chartreuse slab in a foot of water.

To answer the actual OP's question.....
On topwaters I sometimes remove the front hook and depending on the exact bait I might replace the rear treble with a larger treble. I would rather have one sturdy treble than a couple of wimps.
Grew up on Tawakoni and Texoma before hybrids and stripers existed on either.

I use a topwater lure with all of the hooks. If I want to catch numbers when they're surfacing, then I'm not throwing a topwater anyway, I am throwing a single hooked swim bait so i can heave them in the boat, unhook, and get back to fishing quickly. I will throw a TW when I want to have fun, usually after I've murdered them on a swim bait, so I'm not worried about numbers, the amount of hooks, or how long it takes me to get back in the water.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

T-Gil, This is what I had in mind. What is the name of that lure? It looks like it would be deadly.

Jamoke,
Ghost Spinner Pop.
Boris Marine is the only store that has them in stock at present. He sold out in two days so I re stocked and am making more. I am really interested in the feed back I get to see how well they worked and if I need to put them in other stores. They are on my web site under the "What's new" page.
I agree, I think they will be deadly.
