It has never stopped me from shooting but I have a 6'x8' piece of 3/4" plywood behind my target just in case of a miss. I think if an arrow ends up in a neighbor's house or one of his kids that I might just get that ticket after all.

I'm shooting into the brick wall of a garage. I took that into consideration when picking my practice spot. I'd rather destroy an arrow than worry at all about a miss.

The rest of this will address previous posts...

As far as range goes, I'm very new to bow hunting in general, and won't be taking shots at over 30 yards. My blind to the front of my feeder pen is 20 yards.

I do have field points. I shot half of my groups with those, then switched to broadheads to check my zero with them. I don't intend to always practice with broadheads.

I'm pretty sure it's a bolt issue. These just feel cheap, and the flights already wrinkling on all 3 and coming out of one bolt.

I had a chance to shoot one of those not too long after they came out. It was a bad mofo.

I agree that something isn't quite right. Bolts would be the first place I'd look, but you also might try putting that scope back on and see how it shoots. Your cheap red dot might be the problem.

As to the "how far" question about xbows vs compounds, most people don't understand the physics of ballistics and trajectory. They see those initial speed numbers like 400 fps for a xbow vs 300 fps for a compound and automatically assume that means it (the xbow) will shoot farther. In actuality, there are many other factors involved besides just speed. A longer/heavier projectile will hold an accurate trajectory over a much longer distance than a shorter/lighter projectile. That's the reason long range rifle shooters always use heavy bullets and sacrifice speed. That shorter bolt from a xbow will have a lower ballistic coefficient that an arrow, so the effective maximum range for each weapon will be closer than the initial speeds would indicate.

Wish TFP was still here. He could probably explain it better than me.

I live in Lewisville and have been shooting in the wide open field across from a city park for years.
A few Leo's live in my area and they just wave.

The bolt loses speed, but they can be extremely accurate out to 100 yards.
Many videos on YouTube of people with very tight groups.
The noise has always been my concern also.
I wouldn't hesitate to shoot out to 40 yards though.

Seems like a cross bow would have more distance than a compound bow.

A xbow is generally 50-70 lbs more draw weight than a compound but has a much shorter stroke (kinda like 1shot peep) so needs that draw weight to generate about the same speed/kinetic energy as a compound. The issue with a xbow is the noise which will make a deer jump the string. 30yds is about the max I would go with a xbow.

The max distance of your shot can depend on many factors, how much ambient noise, the demeanor of the deer, how windy ect.

Calm down dammit!!! You are at this level and I need you down at this level.

ok ok stir

If you can get those groups at 30 yards you are fine. Go forth and kill.

No need to overthink it.

A good expandible may tighten groups up a little but if your shooting field points that's as good as your gonna get with that set up. Which is more than fine

Yeah, I want to shoot tighter groups, but given the yardage limitations I'm willing to abide by, I'm not worried about hunting season at all.

Did you assemble it or was it already put together? All it takes is one loose bolt. Give it a once over, may be a simple fix.

You could also switch the optics back and see if it improves. Might be a optics issue. Your xbow has good reviews for accuracy so something is up. Heck, maybe it's just you... peep rock solid rest can check that also.

Good luck trouble shooting.

Keep your thumb off the top of it. This is an actual picture sent to me by a friend last year.
