Prayers for their friends and family. Such a tragedy that's so common there.

I'm not surprised. https://www.google.com/amp/abc13.com/amp/-2-drown-while-swimming-in-san-luis-pass-area/2283531/This may not be the thread to say it but I've seen it there many times over the last 2 years I've fished there. It's my favorite spot and I've sent a few OTers there, with a big "be careful" warning. My boss got swept away there and I nearly had a heart attack when I couldn't find him. He got washed up around the corner and walked up to the truck I nearly drowned there on a Sunday morning wade fish before Church The last time I fished there a few months ago I had to help a guy out that had no idea how dangerous it is there, he got cut to pieces on the sea wall Me and two other guys pulled a guy out last year and did CPR for 20 minutes, thought we had him back but we failed I met a local there that told me he knew the property owner, they rescued over 100 people there last summer. He said they pulled 11 people out the weekend before Earlier this year they found a toddler floating upside down there. I never wade without a PFD now after what all I've seen and experienced in the Treasure Island area. I wish there was some way to make people understand that sometimes there that current can take you down And end your life that quick.

Folks can't read?
I walked right up to where it dumps out about 2 years ago, I got the third degree by a lifeguard that pulled up on me. All I was doing was standing by the sign.

Toad, Where this happened (based on the article) is not SLP actually, it's where Surfside Beach stops and the Pass begins. I probably have over 100 wades there. There are no signs or lifeguards there. Think of 12-15 miles of beach with the waves from the Southeast with no obstruction. It creates an unbelievable rip when all that water has to make a 90 degree turn at Treasure Island rounding the corner and heading into SLP. Locals call it "Car bodies" or "Octagon House". It's got the fish, but it is extremely dangerous. Mr. Bright who owns the bait shop there has told me stories of that place over the years that will make you cringe. Years ago when the cars were still semi together, a wade fisher stepped on the hood or the top of one, punched through and couldn't get his foot out. The guy drowned with people holding on to him trying to get his foot out. He's stood on that seawall trying to calm someone down and tell them to swim around the corner only to watch them get cut up and knocked out.

Along with swimming and hunting, fishing is no longer allowed in the SLP area on the Brazoria County side.
On the one hand, a lot of folks have died there. On the other hand, I mean the sign that says "No Wading or Swimming," couldn't be bigger.
My problem with closing the area to fishing is that now everybody must suffer for the idiocy of the few. Perhaps a PFD rule, even a "Stay out of the water," rule, but to just say "no Fishing," oh well the loss of places to fish, hunt, and recreate is an ever increasing trend for as lot of reasons. People's inability to use common sense, apparently, among the biggest such.
