I hate the dinks when you let them go they graze you with the barb and they take a long stretch of skin with them and burns just as bad. Hey Jimbo good to hear from you.You are right about the fishing some of your baits close to shore.I grew up thinking you had to fish deep in the middle of the lake. Now days most of my fish come in about 2-5 ft of water.I guess when you go to the bank it is hard to cast 4-8 ft in front of you.I always want to launch it.Its funny my lady asked me why did I buy a boat so I can fish pretty much chunk my bait on the bank.It took me a second and I responded by saying you can not take the money with you when you leave this world. She said thats why you have me!
If you have enough rods(Catfish713)its always good to try differant depths,areas.etc...Sometimes when we go fishing it is not uncommon for us to have 10 rods out.Try the punchbait and cut shad.

Thanks guys I have only tried for bluegills arround the reeds so next time i can try something different (maybee flipping some tubes in the outer edges of the reeds) I usually take my 10' surf rod and put out about a 100yd cast rigged with 2 small live bluegills or shad and then use my smaller rods to fish the shallows but not much around the reeds (i guess i figured they were clumped togeather too close to hold anything) so next time i have something new to try. I am 17 and about 5'10" so i should be able to wade out pretty far the lake is very flat except for those creek beds running through it.
thanks again for those tips Tight lines and God bless. <>< <><

My grandfather used to take a step ladder fishing with him when he waded. He would set out in 4-5 feet of water then climb the ladder which he had rigged rod holders and then turn around and fish towards the shore. He looked like a nut doing it but always brought home fish.

Lupe,
My Dad almoast always uses crawlers and does very well. That is a good question. Maybe we try and trick things up too much?

Nightcrawlers aren't nearly as easy to come by as shad or punchbait, and keeping them alive isn't hard, but not nearly as easy as keeping punchbait or shad in a ziplock bag on ice. It's not that I wouldn't use nightcrawlers, but everything in the lake eats them including small sunfish, so you get your bait stolen more often, and as fast as the action gets sometimes, I would run out of nightcrawlers in a hurry.
When I could get my own, I would use really big nightcrawlers when I lived in Missouri. My dad had a woodchip pile and the crawlers would be under it in large numbers. They were huge, and the catfish on the Mississippi would really destroy these things. After a heavy rain, my friend and I would collect thousands of these worms, put them in a #3 washtub with dirt and use them all year.
