JARIC AC & Heat Based in Plano 972-423-1279
Great guys, honest. Been in business since the mid '70s, been taking care of my Mom's house since almost the beginning.
Has done work for my entire family.

Prosper Air. They replaced all 3 of my AC units last year after they got fried by lightning. I was very pleased with their work, and their pricing was good. Family owned company, and you won't feel like you are just paying for their next radio spot.

COFF, did you add surge protection after that?

Nope. I am 100% convinced that whole house surge protection will do absolutely nothing in the event of a strike. There is just too much raw power.

It hit my house on the top corner of the roof, and blew a trench across the ridge line for about 15'. And I say blew because it was like a bomb. Instant ridge vent. It also fried the electronic igniter on my gas water heater. The WH does not plug in; the static field was enough to fry it, and it was located on the far side of the attic from where the roof was struck.

If lightening directly contacts your wiring, there is enough zap going through there that it is going to arc across any type of breaker you try to install. The best you can really do is protect against a minor surge if a transformer down the street is hit. And that can be accomplished with a couple of $7 power strips instead of a $500 whole house unit.

Sorry Coff, but you can protect whatever with proper surge protection and grounding. I did it for years at tower sites. You have to know a few things and use the right stuff, but it is a proven product.

I buy into the grounding, diversion, and static dissipation. I just feel that if God actually touches you, you aren't going to stop Him with a surge box.

Well duh. Can't reroute God and lightning does what it wants. I just give it more choices. Usually works fine.

When you have worked and managed A/C supply houses for years you tend to know most, if not ALL a/c companies in the metroplex. When Crankbait08 speaks of someone in the ac business I would really trust him in knowing the best of the best. thumb And I know Ron personally with Premier and he is the best of the best.
