My one year anniversary is coming up in October and my wife is actually entertaining the idea of us hiring a guide to fish the coast for a day. We live in the Tyler area, so I'd ideally like to look in the Port Arthur to Freeport area, but any recommendations would be great, as I am essentially unfamiliar with the entire coast. I'm really thinking a bull red trip would be awesome, but again, I'm open to other ideas from y'all. I wish I was getting on here to offer up some advice, or a fishing report, but I'm really blind to fishing the coast and hopping to get some good direction for a guide to book. Thanks for any input!!

I'm a little further south but Port O'Connor will give you excellent results on slot ,bull reds, and state water kings and snapper. My method of fishing for red fish has 99% success rate in October. You can look back at past Octobers on my Facebook page or I can give you contact info for my regular customers that will back up what I'm telling you. I fish out of a 31' Twin Vee so if you hit a day when the wind blows 30 knots out of the north we can still cross the bay and get to the jetty safe.

October is when I've had the most luck. However, you want to make sure to avoid fishing during or just after a cold front.

I'm a POC guy but my neighbor has been making trips to Leeville, La. with outstanding results. Since you are in Tyler that might be a better bet and you might learn some French on the trip. Hate to admit it, but catching seems to be better in La.

I have not seen cold fronts affect the jetty bite in any bad ways and hard to imagine the fishing being any better than catching them as fast as you can get a bait in the water.

You're probably right at the jetties. Its just that I've had lots of zero bite trips with those beautiful blue sky post front days. fresh or salt. I just don't have the experience to know how to adjust my fishing to account for the fronts.

I even got skunked on the white river with a guide. Not even a bite.

There are monsters at the jetties but I've caught my fair share at Saluria too. POC is just a great area. Unfortunately, its not a best kept secret anymore.

In the fall, minor, weak cold fronts really don't have that much affect. Yes you are right on how much they can affect fishing in the winter and spring (and in the summer high pressure can also affect your fishing as well). In the fall all the way until mid december fronts can actually help fishing in the early part of the front as it will push water out of the bay.. that can turn on the bite at the jetties for the bull reds as well as improve both flounder and redfish in marsh cuts.

ya'll have fun and good on you for taking your lady with a guide and getting her hooked up.
