I have never seen that kind of behavior unless there was something they were after. I have caught tons of shark and many much larger than that one.

Well since that was in California the little Hammerhead knew he was unarmed! nuts

Off the coast of Texas the sharks know everyone is armed so they act better here! peep

It was like catnip for sharks. Since whacking the shark with the paddle was not working, I would have worked more on paddling to shore. Whack once, paddle twice. If he breaks the paddle on the shark, he's screwed.

I've had a lot of run ins with sharks, three times I have had sharks hit my kayak with such force that part of the kayak came completely out of the water. Each time it was when the shark was actively feeding. Once when the shark went after a leopard ray that was just below the surface on the opposite side of my kayak, while ray was drifting along side me in the shadow of my kayak, once when I was reeling in a trout that got hit at full speed from an attacking shark, and once when a shark that was chasing a school of fleeing mullet that tried to hide under by kayak in just inches of water. Have always seen sharks follow me, just inches from stern or just behind paddle blade. Came within a hair of losing a hand or wrist while reaching out to land a fish several times. Never feared a shark just attacking.

Now the one above never hit me but it did cut three quick doughnuts at incredible speed next to me as I watched.

Thanks, I think that was one of my first encounters with a shark, Flamingo, Everglades National Park in 2003. I had watched it for half an hour as it cruised the flats from long distance. It finally made its way to me and then spooked both of us.
